How Many Brownies Are In An 8×8 Pan?

Brownies are a popular dessert that can be enjoyed on their own or as a base for a variety of decadent treats. If you’re planning to make brownies for a gathering or just to satisfy your sweet tooth, you may be wondering how many brownies can fit in an 8×8 pan.

The quantity of brownies that can be made in an 8×8-inch pan is influenced by various factors such as the thickness of the batter, size of the cuts, and preferred serving size.

Ensuring that you have the right number of brownies is crucial, particularly if you are baking for a group or want to guarantee that there are adequate servings for everyone.

Typically, an 8×8-inch pan will yield approximately 9-16 brownies, but you can modify the size of your slices to achieve more, or fewer portions based on your requirements.

Measuring and marking your cuts in advance is crucial to guarantee that your brownies are uniformly proportioned.

How Much Does An 8×8 Pan Serve?

Assuming you slice your brownies into 2-inch squares, you should anticipate obtaining roughly 9-12 portions from an 8×8-inch pan.

It is possible, however, to adjust the size of the slices to fit your needs, which may result in more or fewer servings.

It’s worth noting that serving size may also vary depending on the event or the size of the group you’re catering to. Therefore, it’s important to keep that in mind as well.

What Size Pan For One Box Of Brownies?

Typically, a regular box of brownie mix is made to be baked in a 9×13-inch pan, resulting in around 24 brownies. Nevertheless, some mixes may come with distinct instructions for using either an 8×8 inch or a 9×9 inch pan.

Can You Double The Recipe To Make More Brownies?

If you want to make more brownies, you can double the recipe. However, remember that this will change the baking time and you may need a bigger pan. Adjust the baking time accordingly and check on your brownies as they bake.

Mixing the batter thoroughly and spreading it evenly in the pan is also important to guarantee even cooking. Lastly, doubling the recipe means you’ll need more ingredients and a larger mixing bowl.

What Size Should You Cut Your Brownies?

The size of your brownie cuts is up to you and may depend on how many people you’re serving and the portion size you prefer. While a 2-inch square is typically considered a single serving, you can adjust your cuts for more or fewer portions.

To ensure evenly sized cuts, you can use a ruler to measure and mark before slicing or opt for a pizza cutter or bench scraper for straight and even cuts.

When making individual treats or sharing with friends, adjusting the size of your cuts is also useful. Do the frosting first before cutting.

Is It Possible To Substitute An 8×8 Inch Square Brownie Pan With An 11×7 Inch Pan For The Same Brownie Recipe?

Absolutely, you can use an 11×7 inch pan instead of an 8×8 inch square brownie pan, but your brownies will turn out thinner. You’ll need to adjust the baking time since they’ll cook faster.

To get the right baking time, you can check the brownies at half the quoted time for the 8×8 pan and then check them every 5 minutes until they’re ready.

For example, if the recipe says it will take 30 minutes to bake, you can check them at the 15-minute mark to see how ‘done’ they are.

If they need more time, check them again after 5 minutes, and continue doing so until they’re ready to be taken out of the oven.

Between An 8×8 And 9×9 Brownie Pan, Which One Is More Commonly Used?

I’ve used both pan sizes, but if you’re only going to get one, I recommend getting the 8×8-inch pan.

It’s easier to use an 8×8 pan for a 9×9 recipe by leaving some batter out and making a cupcake or two with the extra batter rather than scaling up some weird percentage to get enough batter for a 9×9 pan.

Additionally, for many 9×9 recipes, you can simply use an 8×8 pan, and it won’t be too high. You may just need to bake it for a bit longer.

The best reason I can give you to get an 8×8 pan is that it’s roughly half the area of a 9×13 pan, which is the standard rectangular size.

This means that if you want to make a recipe that’s intended for a 9×13 pan, but you only have an 8×8 pan, you can simply cut the recipe in half, and it will fit perfectly in the smaller pan.

On the other hand, if you were to use a 9×9 pan instead, you would need to scale down the recipe by 2/3, which can be difficult. I’ve done it before, and it wasn’t a pleasant experience.

Final Words

It’s useful to know how many brownies you can make in an 8×8-inch pan when you’re planning your baking projects and figuring out your servings.

While the exact number of brownies can vary based on factors like batter thickness, desired serving size, and cutting technique, you can usually expect to get between 9-16 brownies from an 8×8 pan.

By adjusting your brownie cuts, measuring your slices, and storing leftovers properly, you can keep your brownies fresh for as long as possible.

Try different pan sizes and serving sizes to find what works best for you, whether you’re baking for a party or just yourself.
